The Streets

by Latorial Faison

I don't think I'll ever understand the streets
What about them makes brothers and sisters get knee deep

They fall in love with the likes of trouble
Sworn in by fast money and drugs on the double

They say education’s overrated; honest jobs a joke
They talk about watching backs; they fear getting smoked

Cruising and boozing on their boulevard
Living ain't easy, so you got to be hard

No longer does crime prefer the city street
Now it even reigns in the country deep

There are no friends, just enemies in this game
Next thing you know, the feds are changing your name

Black life has value, more than you’ll ever know
So when the streets come calling, just say no.
